Biden’s administration is looking to place more than 30 Chinese chipmakers such as Yangtze Memory Technologies (YMTC) on a trade blacklist early this week.
The U.S Department of Commerce will add 36 Chinese companies to a commonly well-known “Entity List” that would stop them from buying certain American components.
Once a company has been added to the entity list, the U.S. suppliers must seek a special license in order to ship even low-tech items to those companies.
In October, these entities including YMTC were added to a list of companies that U.S. officials were unable to check, which increased tension between Washington and Beijing.
