AIS reveals the potential for high speed 5G surpassing 3Gbps, becoming Thailand’s first and only provider on LIVE mmWave network

Mr. Wasit Wattanasap, Head of Nationwide Operations and Support Business Unit, AIS said, “From the goal of becoming an intelligent telecommunication organization or Cognitive Tech-Co to create prosperity for the country, AIS therefore continues to develop the capabilities of AIS’ network infrastructure to be ready with an investment budget of more than 27,000 – 30,000 million baht this year, as the licensee who holds the most spectrum and completes both the Low Band, Mid Band, and High Band or mmWave, which stands out in terms of fast data transmission and low latency. We therefore never stop in bringing innovation to continuously augment the network in every area, from 5G NSA/ SA, VoNR, 5G CA, or NRDC, etc. to deliver a better and better experience to Thai people as intended since we participated in the spectrum auction.”

“Therefore, to ensure that the AIS 5G network will be ready to respond and deliver the ultimate user experience of various smart devices that are constantly being launched around the world with full efficiency – especially the device that supports the latest 5G mmWave technology, therefore, once again collaborating with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc, a global leader in connected processing at the intelligent edge, following the success of last year’s NRDC (New Radio Dual Connectivity) on the 2.6GHz (2600MHz) and 26GHz frequency trials on prototype devices. Today, the AIS 5G mmWave network on the 26 GHz frequency band can support the use of world-class smartphones powered by Qualcomm Technologies chipsets at a speed of up to 3 Gbps for the first time in Thailand.

Mr. Wasit went on to say that “Our work with Qualcomm Technologies will result in a better user experience for consumers and future industry applications such as streaming online games (Cloud Games), self-driving cars. as well as remote robot control that can be done in real time. In addition, this test can also support the development of new mobile chipsets. In the future that will make data transmission connect faster as well.”

ST Liew, Vice President, Qualcomm CDMA Technologies Asia-Pacific Pte. Ltd. and President, Qualcomm Taiwan, South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand said, “This joint effort proves the feasibility of 5G mmWave deployment in Thailand, where Qualcomm Technologies believes that 5G mmWave will be the key to unlocking the full potential of 5G. The possibilities are virtually endless, and we are proud to take the first step with our key partners in bringing all the benefits of 5G mmWave to Thailand.”

“This cooperation confirms the intention that AIS is committed to bringing the spectrum that is the country’s resource to develop and support the growth of the business sector in various dimensions as well as to continuously benefits the Thai consumers. The important thing is that, this time, we have Qualcomm Technologies, a world-class leader in connected processing at the intelligent edge, who participated in the verification test, enabling the AIS 5G network to be ready to respond and support the use of various devices that support 5G mmWave technology, which are gradually being launched continuously at full capacity for certain, ”said Mr. Wasit.
