Cambodia’s National Committee for Maritime Security reported that a Thai cargo vessel capsized in the waters near Sihanoukville in southwestern Cambodia on Sunday, with all ten crew members successfully saved.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:00 PM local time while the ship, carrying 53 containers, was en route from Thailand to the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, the committee reported.
Severe weather conditions, including heavy rain, strong winds, and high waves, led to the vessel sinking near Koh Rong Island. “All ten crew members of Thai nationality were promptly rescued by a nearby fishing vessel,” the committee added.
The vessel, identified as Chiang Laan, was owned by Nam Yuen Yong Shipping Company Limited, according to balticshipping. It measures 49 meters in length, 15 meters in width, and has a depth of 3.2 meters.
Nam Yuen Yong Shipping Company Limited is a shipping service under Namyong Group and a major shareholder of Namyong Terminal Public Company Limited (SET: NYT).
The share price of NYT dropped 2.66% in the morning session on Monday amid a negative session in Thailand’s main bourse SET Index, which experienced a 1.31% drop.
