SCC Reports No Impact to Chemical Operations from Fire Incident

The Siam Cement Public Company Limited (or “SCC” ) has announced that Thai Plastic and Chemicals Public Company Limited (or “TPC”) a subsidiary of SCC in the chemicals business, located in Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Rayong Province, issued a statement on September 22, 2024, regarding a fire and smoke incident at a sub-production unit within the factory. The incident occurred at 12.10 P.M. and the fire was extinguished by 3.05 P.M., without any injuries or fatalities. Details of the incident are as attached in TPC’s official statement.

SCC has informed that the impact resulting from the incident is 0.04% of SCG’s total sales. While the situation has been resolved, TPC will continue to closely monitor and ensure the safety of the surrounding community and air quality in the area.

Thai Plastic and Chemicals Public Company Limited (TPC) would like to inform that on September 22, 2024, at 12:10 PM, a fire and smoke incident occurred at a sub-production unit within our factory located in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Rayong Province. The company immediately took control of the situation and successfully extinguished the fire by 3:05 PM without any injuries or fatalities. Our community relations officers were promptly dispatched to the area to provide care, explanations, and listen to the concerns of the surrounding community.

Regarding to environmental impacts, real-time air quality parameters were measured by The Industrial Estate of Thailand (IEAT) during the incident. All parameters were reported within the standard limits. Additionally, our environmental officers have been monitoring air quality in over 40 surrounding community areas continuously. For water quality, the company contained the water used for firefighting in retention ponds and rainwater drainage systems, and safely disposed of it according to legal requirements, ensuring no leakage into the environment.

We would like to inform that the incident occurred only at the VCM 1 (Vinyl Chloride Monomer) sub-production unit, while VCM 2 operations continued unaffected. Furthermore, TPC has insurance coverage for property risks and business interruptions. The company is coordinating with the insurers to assess compensation according to the insurance policy terms.

TPC apologizes for the incident and will expedite the investigation to determine the cause and implement preventive measures in the future. We will also continue stringent environmental monitoring.
