Thai Baht Strengthens to 18-Month High Against Dollar

The Thai baht opened the market today at THB32.95 per dollar and continued to strengthen to THB32.90 on Monday, September 23, 2024, compared to the market close on Friday at 33.08 baht/dollar. The level of Thai baht on Monday is the strongest since early February 2023.

The Money and International Transactions Department of TMBThanachat (TTB) noted that while the baht strengthens against the US dollar, it is in line with the global gold price adjustments and capital inflows. Key factors to monitor in Thailand include August export figures, the global gold market situation, and the US economic indicators such as the PMI index and consumer confidence index for September, as well as the weekly jobless claims data.

Market watchers are also awaiting statements from the Federal Reserve officials and PMI indices for September from the Eurozone, UK, and Japan. On Friday, foreign investors net bought 1.35 billion baht in Thai government bonds and 1.4 billion baht in the Thai stock market.
