Electricity Generating Public Company Limited or EGCO Group are excited to announce that the installation of all 80 wind turbine generators (WTGs) of the Yunlin offshore wind farm project in Taiwan has been completed. Moving ahead, the project is expected to fully connect its 640-megawatt power capacity to the grid by the end of this year.
Dr. Jiraporn Sirikum, President of EGCO Group, said, “The construction of the Yunlin project has continually made impressive progress. Recently, the installation of all 80 wind turbine generators (WTGs) has been completed and 78 out of 81 cables connecting to Taiwan’s power grid have been laid. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of all relevant parties with efficient construction planning and project management capabilities. We especially thank the Taiwanese government for their continuous support in all aspects of the project. The project is on track to deliver on its promise and fully commission by the end of 2024. Once completed, the project is expected to generate a cash flow for EGCO Group with approximately THB 2,000 million per year for the first 5 years of its full operation”.
EGCO Group owns 26.56% stakes in the 640-megawatt Yunlin offshore wind farm. The project is located in the Taiwan Strait, between 8 and 30 kilometers off the west coast of Taiwan, and covers an overall area of 90 square kilometers. It delivers electricity under a 20-year power purchase agreement with Taipower (Taiwan Power Company). The project has already strengthened Taiwan’s power grid by supplying over 1,600 gigawatt-hours of renewable energy to the electrical system. When construction is fully completed, it will provide electricity to over 600,000 households in Taiwan.
