The National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) announced the resolution of its board meeting on the awarding of orbital slot licenses, picking TC Space Connect Company Limited, a subsidiary of Thaicom Public Company Limited (SET: THCOM), to secure the rights to operate the 50.5° East orbital slot under the company’s specified terms.
Meanwhile, the 51° East and 142° East orbital slots remained unclaimed by any entities, attributed to incomplete documentation requirements. The NBTC highlighted uncertainty regarding the utilization of the slots, particularly the 51° East, as the bidder suggested establishing a new company to manage the acquired slots. However, the NBTC prefers the entity acquiring the rights to coincide with the bidding entity.
The satellite operating rights at the 50.5° East orbital slot with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) are set to expire by November 27, 2024. The NBTC’s priority is to transfer these rights primarily to private entities.
