Trump’s victory is within grasp after cementing his win in North Carolina and Georgia, while Pennsylvania is just a few counts shy from unofficial announcement. These three states are key battlegrounds that are believed to be up for grabs by both sides.
Key swing states, including Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Nevada are supposed to be a tight battleground with Kamala Harris projected to take Nevada, Wisconsin, and North Carolina in pre-election projection. However, Trump is now taking all seven states.
In the meantime, the GOP has regained control of the Senate by gaining seats in Ohio and West Virginia, while successfully defending positions in Texas and Nebraska, according to the Associated Press.
This victory marks the Republicans’ return to dominance in the upper chamber of Congress after a four-year hiatus. With this regained majority, Republicans will wield significant influence over key decisions, such as confirming Supreme Court justices, federal judges, and cabinet appointees in the event of a Donald Trump presidency. Conversely, in the scenario of a Kamala Harris victory, they retain the power to delay or block her appointees outright.
