China reiterated the importance of fostering stronger collaboration with the United States just a day after the victory of President-elect Donald Trump was confirmed.
He Yongqian, a spokesperson at China’s Ministry of Commerce, expressed China’s willingness to enhance dialogue, broaden cooperation, and address disagreements with the U.S., all based on principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and mutually beneficial partnerships.
This sentiment was shared by Chinese President Xi Jinping in a congratulatory message to Trump, emphasizing the positive outcomes of bilateral teamwork.
The reassurances from China come amid concerns over potential escalations in U.S. tariffs and restrictions on high-tech products.
During Trump’s initial term starting in 2017, Washington adopted a more stringent stance toward Beijing, with the administration escalating pressure on China through various measures. As Trump campaigned for a second term in the current year, he renewed threats of imposing further tariffs on Chinese imports.
