Thailand’s Minister of Agriculture has announced a 38 billion baht ($1.1 billion) assistance plan for rice farmers, aiming to boost productivity.
Minister Narumon Pinyosinwat stated that she will present the 38-billion-baht ($1.1 billion) plan to the cabinet during its upcoming meeting this Friday. Under the plan, rice farmers will receive 1,000 baht ($29) per rai for up to 10 rai (1.6 hectares), benefiting approximately 4.68 million households nationwide.
Thailand, the world’s second-largest rice exporter, has shipped 8.37 million metric tons of rice from January to October 2024, a 20% increase in value compared to the previous year. The ministry projects that rice exports will reach 9 million metric tons by the end of the year, valued at around $6.4 billion.
