Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, is set to give his approval to a potential ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, according to several reports citing sources familiar with the matter.
This decision was hinted at during a security session with Israeli officials on Sunday evening after Netanyahu approved the plan in principle.
Sources close to the ongoing peace negotiations have revealed talks have been progressing satisfactorily towards a pact. However, they caution that the continuous exchange of fire between Israel and Hezbollah presents a chance for derailment. In contrast with earlier reports, a Lebanese functionary engaged in the talks stated that a ceasefire announcement is imminent within a day.
Benny Gantz, who made his exit from the Israeli war cabinet in June because of disagreements with Netanyahu’s approach to the Gaza conflict, has insisted the specifics of the ceasefire agreement be made public. His sentiments have been echoed by residents of northern Israel and south Lebanon who have been evacuated due to the conflict, expressing apprehension about the potential pact.
