Indonesia’s Investment Minister, Rosan Roeslani, has confirmed through Bloomberg that the government is close to settling the deal with Apple that should potentially allow the tech giant to resume sales of iPhone 16 in the country of about 280 million people within one or two weeks.
The ban was imposed in 2024 when Apple failed to meet Indonesia’s requirement that smartphones sold in the country must use at least 40% locally made parts.
While Apple does not have manufacturing facilities in Indonesia, the company has supported the local community by establishing application developer academies since 2018.
