Trump Pauses Tariffs on Canada and Mexico after Reaching Border Security Agreements

After a conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday, US President Donald Trump agreed to pause the proposed tariffs on Canada.

Over the weekend, Trump announced 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico, with Canadian oil receiving a 10% tariff, while China faced 10% tariffs. However, Trudeau and Trump managed to reach an agreement with Trump postponing the tariffs for 30 days.

In exchange, Trudeau pledged to deploy 10,000 personnel along the U.S.-Canada border to enhance security and announced plans to appoint a Fentanyl Czar to tackle illegal drug trafficking. This border security plan is expected to cost Canada around $1.3 billion.

In addition to Canada, Trump also paused his tariff plan with Mexico for 30 days after the country agreed to his demand to deploy more troops along the US southern border.
