Nintendo’s 3Q Performance Falls Short as Focus Shifts to Upcoming Switch Successor

Nintendo’s fiscal third-quarter results fell below expectations, prompting a revision of the Switch console forecast as the company prepares for the launch of its successor.

Revenue for the quarter ended December 31 was 432.92 billion Japanese yen ($2.8 billion), missing the projected 498.22 billion yen by LSEG estimates, while net profit stood at 128.53 billion yen, below the anticipated 136.16 billion yen.

Attention is now focused on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, set to follow on from the popular Switch released in 2017.

Last month, Nintendo offered a glimpse of the Switch 2 with a trailer highlighting the new hardware. The company also revealed that certain Switch games will be compatible with the Switch 2. However, the pricing or release date for the new console has not yet been disclosed.

Despite efforts to sustain interest in the current console through updates, character promotions, and movie appearances, Nintendo acknowledged a downturn in Switch sales, prompting a downward revision in sales forecasts for the fiscal year ending in March 2025.
