Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Tuesday that Ukraine has agreed to a 30-day ceasefire proposed by the United States. This decision follows significant diplomatic discussions between US and Ukrainian officials held in Saudi Arabia.
The ceasefire will apply across the entire battlefront with Russia, thus covering land, air, and sea, Zelenskyy clarified after the extensive meeting that lasted over eight hours.
Following the discussions in Jeddah, the US, in a joint statement with Ukraine, declared that it would immediately lift the suspension on intelligence sharing and reinstate security assistance to Ukraine.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio remarked post-meeting that it is now Russia’s responsibility to make moves towards ending the conflict. Rubio stated that the US anticipated they would agree to peace; the decision is now on the Russian side.
US President Donald Trump expressed his approval of the developments and promised to discuss the plan with Russian President Vladimir Putin, potentially engaging in talks later this week.
