Russia confirmed that the phone conversation between President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump regarding ending the war in Ukraine will happen on 13:00 and 15:00 GMT today, which are 20:00 and 22:00 in Thailand.
Dmitry Peskov, Russian’s spokesman, stated that the two nations already have a “certain understanding” due to the previous communications of the two nations. Nevertheless, there are still several matters that both presidents need to discuss with each other.
As for the US, Trump gave a positive comment to the reporter on board Air Force One, expressing his belief to end the war. He also stated in the in-coming conversation, he and Putin will discuss dividing assets, such as territory and power plants.
Currently, Russia took control of most of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Luhansk. The US official recommended Ukraine to give up these regions to end the war. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy showed no desire to let the land concessions happen.
Russia also maintains their position to not give up these lands they took over. In fact, Putin made the concessions part of the ceasefire condition. Several NATO members in Europe become concerned as Trump seems to let the concession happen before the talks begin.
Nonetheless, Putin stated that the relationship between the US and Russia began to restore from zero, which was destroyed during Biden’s administration. He also stated that the situation is moving before stating ““Let’s see what comes out of this.”
