Viroje Vasusuttikulkant, CEO of SMD Rise Public Company Limited (SET: SMD100), has announced a strategic shift for the company. SMD100 will transition from being a medical equipment distributor to becoming a “Specialized Healthcare Service Provider,” encompassing all facets of the medical value chain—from upstream to downstream.
Viroj stated that SMD Rise recognizes that patients, hospitals, partners, and society are not just looking for high-quality products but comprehensive solutions that truly enhance life quality (Health Value Creation).
The company believes the future of medical organizations does not compete on size but on the capacity to generate positive health impacts for society. SMD Rise is transitioning from merely selling equipment to being a partner establishing treatment systems and enhancing the sustainability of healthcare systems, he elaborated.
Aligning with this vision, SMD100 is undergoing a significant business restructuring by establishing specialized subsidiaries, aiming for agile, clear, and sustainable growth across different business sectors. The new structure consists of five primary business units:
1) SMD Genesis Co., Ltd.: Focuses on Critical Care products, providing sales and rental of medical equipment and developing service models through a revenue sharing model with partner hospitals to efficiently enhance critical patient care.
2) SMD Sappaya Co., Ltd.: Innovating health through holistic and proactive healthcare concepts with services and products under the 10S lineup: Sleep, Sex, Stress, Metabolic Syndrome, (Office) Syndrome, Slim, Skin, Soul & Spirit, Smart Exercise (Body, Brain, Heart), and Super Sappaya, operating through medical services, revenue sharing, cloud healthcare service, and DaaS – Device as a Service models.
3) SMDi Co., Ltd.: Manages products and services in the Advanced Imaging & Radiation Therapy sector, including CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, AI Imaging Platform, LINAC, and Proton Therapy Center. It serves as a principal unit for developing Cancer Treatment Centers, either through sales or revenue sharing models.
4) SMD Connex Co., Ltd.: Oversees Cardiovascular Product Portfolio and Clinical Information System (CIS), focusing on linking medical device data to digital systems, conducting business through sales, rental, and subscription models.
5) SMD Robotic Surgery Business Unit: Specializes in Robotic Surgery Systems, providing services in a rental model format to hospitals and specialized surgical centers.
Viroj further explained that this new structure not only accommodates business expansion in each sector but also enables SMD100 to develop service systems that seamlessly integrate innovation, technology, and personnel.
The restructuring supports the organization’s development in various dimensions, such as Governance, Integrated Risk Management, and crafting deep strategies for each business unit.
