YouTube unveiled fresh video creation tools on Thursday, specifically designed for its Shorts platform, which stands in competition with TikTok.
This development coincides with potential hurdles faced by TikTok, owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, as it confronts the threat of a U.S. ban unless sold to an American entity by April 5.
Highlighted among the new offerings is an advanced video editor that affords creators the ability to execute detailed edits and adjustments. Additionally, the platform introduces features like automatic syncing of video segments to music beats and the integration of AI-powered stickers.
YouTube, a Google subsidiary, plans to release these creator enhancements later in the spring season.
In tandem with these updates, YouTube has also revised its view count methodology for Shorts. The new rules will record each play or replay of a video without necessitating a minimum viewing time. This adjustment parallels the view counting strategies employed by TikTok and Meta’s Reels, which is likely to boost viewership statistics.
Johanna Voolich, YouTube’s Chief Product Officer, explained these changes via a company video, stating, creators expressed their desire for this update. It helps them gain a better sense of when their Shorts are viewed. She added that this system is especially advantageous for those who share content across various platforms.
