SKY Joins ROCTEC in Communication Network Installation for Thai Railway System

Mr. Weerit Amrapal, Governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), revealed yesterday that the board signed an employment contract for communication network installation, worth THB 1.487 billion, with a joint venture RUTS, comprised of SKY ICT Public Company Limited (SET: SKY), Roctec Global Public Company Limited (SET: ROCTEC), and United Telecom Sales and Services Company Limited (UTEL).

This project will improve the communication infrastructure to cover every railroad in the nation, increase train operation’s efficiency, lower work hazard, and support systems for railway signalling, level crossing, and train tracking. The project is scheduled to be completed within November 2026.

Furthermore, SRT’s communication standard will also be improved due to the installation of fiber optic cable in this project. This technology infrastructure will assist the company information system in every department to work at full capacity.

There will also be the setting of communications-based train control systems to increase operation safety and functionality. In the future, this fiber optic cable project will welcome the private sector to rent for use or provide additional services.

This investment opens a pathway for the use of advanced communication technology, such as the European Train Control System level 2 and the Future Railway Mobile Communication System, which are the communication standards for the global train network.

Additionally, this investment will enable the system to support new technology and the development of rail transportation, becoming the main transportation method for passenger and merchandise.

The passenger service will become more comfortable and modern as the SRT was assigned specifically by the Thai government to elevate this service as part of an important policy. This is to urgently improve the rail transportation services to align with the continuing developing infrastructure.
