According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, the U.S. President Donald Trump’s public approval rating continues to decline and recently hit the lowest level since he took office. This is due to the concern of Americans over his effort on expanding his authority.
The Reuters/Ipsos’ six-day poll that received 4,306 respondents showed the U.S. president now only has an approval rate of 42%, one percent lower than the three weeks ago (43%) and five percent lower than when he recently became president in January (47%).
Since becoming President, Trump has signed several orders that expand his power over government departments and private institutions. Many of which are not favored by the American people, even among the Republicans.
83% of the Reuters/Ipsos poll’s respondents, along with 73% of Republicans, stated that Trump must not ignore the court’s order. This response is reflecting the administration’s defiance of a federal judge’s order to pause the deportation of several alleged Venezuelan gang members.
Another example is when the poll asked whether Trump should freeze the funding meant for the universities that he and his administration disagree with, like when they withhold the budget with more than $2 billion to Harvard University. 57% of respondents disapproved of it, along with 28% of Republicans.
Whether about inflation, taxation, and rule of law, respondent’s disapproval rate on the U.S. president’s performance are all higher than the approval, including the immigration topic, which is his strongest area of support. 53% of respondents now stated Trump should not seek the third term, even though the U.S. The Constitution does not allow him to.
