Thailand’s car exports increased 24.28% year on year in January to 86,786 units, according to official data released on Tuesday, despite the challenges of a global slowdown and weakening demand.
Car production in Thailand rose 4.02% in January from a year earlier to 157,844 units, helped by higher exports, the Federation of Thai Industries said on Tuesday.
Despite this, Surapong Paisitpattanapong, a spokesman for FTI’s automotive industry section, said at a news conference that domestic sales were down 5.58% in January compared to the same month a year ago because of a lack of semiconductors in some automobile models.
Considering current export rates, the FTI anticipates that shipments will reach 1.05 million cars this year.
