BTS Joins Chinese Embassy and Thai Authorities to Celebrate ‘Chinese New Year 2024’

BTS Group Holdings Public Company Limited (SET: BTS) joins the Chinese Embassy, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and Ministry of Culture to hold a Chinese New Year celebration at the BTS SkyTrain Phrom Phong Station on Friday.

Honoured by H.E. Mr. Han Zhiqiang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Thailand, Ms. Sudawan Wangsuphakitkoson, Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Sermsak Pongpanich, Minister of Culture and Mr. Keeree Kanjanapas, Chairman of BTS, the group celebrates the upcoming Chinese New Year 2024 with an aim to bring utmost joy to Thai and foreign visitors, especially Chinese tourists, during this period of the year.

Linked by long and tight relationships between the two countries, the Tourism and Sports Minister believed that Thailand will see an increase of Chinese tourists this year, citing that they have already taken the number one spot on tourist arrivals in January this year. The free visa between China and Thailand will also boost traffic between the two countries as well.

Thailand expected to welcome at least 200,000 Chinese tourists during the Chinese New Year (8-16 Feb) and the overall revenue from Thai tourism during this period would be around 34.39 billion baht. This will greatly contribute to the projection of 3.5 trillion baht in total revenue from tourism this year.

Mr. Surapong Laoha-unya, Director of BTS, noted that ridership will increase and the company is discussing with other Chinese partners to implement easier payment method for Chinese tourists, following last year’s cooperation with WeChat, a super app in China, in allowing users to pay ticket fees through the app. He mentioned that the cooperation with WeChat was a success with very positive feedback.
