Taylor Swift’s Eras tour in Singapore became a hot topic to discuss after the country’s Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, stated on Tuesday and made it clear that the Singapore government did make an agreement for Taylor Swift to exclusively perform her concert in Singapore and not any other countries in Southeast Asia.
According to Reuters, Lee Hsien Loong stated at a press conference at a regional summit in Melbourne that the government negotiated an arrangement with Taylor Swift to come to Singapore and perform and to make Singapore her only stop in Southeast Asia.
The issue was first mentioned on February 16 by Srettha Thavisin, Thailand’s Prime Minister, as according to the information from Bangkok Post, the Thai PM accused Singapore of making the exclusive deal by giving Swift’s team around $2 million to $3 million per show in exchange for Singapore to be the only stop for the tour in the region.
Meanwhile, earlier on Monday, Edwin Tong, Singapore’s Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, had avoided answering the question on this topic, saying that the deal was confidential, while also stating to the Singapore parliament that the grant that was given to Swift’s team was not as high as what was speculated online.
