Thai Cabinet Greenlights Draft Law to Legalize Gambling and Casinos

Thailand’s cabinet has endorsed a draft law intended to legalize gambling and casinos, as part of a strategy to invigorate tourism and attract investment, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra announced on Monday.

This proposal will now advance to parliament for a review, marking the latest move in the government’s initiative to incorporate gambling within large-scale entertainment complexes.

Thailand’s entertainment complex project is a plan to legalize casinos and establish entertainment complexes that include casinos, restaurants, hotels, sports facilities, theaters, parks and other businesses.

It is anticipated that the Entertainment Complex projects could attract investments exceeding 100 billion baht per project. These complexes are projected to generate additional revenue of approximately 40-50 billion baht annually. Moreover, they are expected to boost the number of international tourists by 5-20% and increase the average income per tourist from 40,000 baht to 60,000 baht per trip.
