Thailand’s largest department store owner, Central Group, is preparing to close the deal in acquiring a chain of high-end department stores in the United Kingdom, Selfridges, worth £4 billion (approx. THB179 billion), according to Reuters that cited sources familiar with the matter.
On December 2, 2021, The Times newspaper reported that the current owners of Selfridges had agreed on the terms with Central Group around the end of November.
As the news broke out, Central Retail Corp Public Company Limited (SET: CRC), the group’s main retail stores unit, officially announced through the Stock Exchange of Thailand that the company was not currently involved with the transaction reported in the news.
According to the source, an official announcement could be made today (December 23, 2021).
