Stocks in Asia traded lower on Monday as investors looked forward to the Fed’s meeting and U.S. inflation data this week.
As of 8:48 BKK time on Monday, Nikkei slipped 0.27%, SSEC dropped 0.41%, Hang Seng Index fell 1.29%, Kospi decreased 0.69% and ASX200 dipped 0.52%.
Thailand’s SET Index closed on Monday for a holiday.
The Federal Reserve will begin its two-day meeting on Tuesday as the market widely expected a 50 basis point rate hike by the central bank. The U.S. consumer price index for November will also be released on Tuesday as well. The consensus pointed to a slowdown to 7.3% from 7.7% in October. On a monthly basis, economists expected a 0.3% rise in November, compared to 0.4% in October.
