Thailand’s digital ministry is expecting to pursue domestic legal action against Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook in a potential that could lead to a shutdown in the kingdom as Meta Platform (NASDAQ: META) fails to cooperate on tackling scams.
The digital ministry said on Monday that more than 200,000 people were affected by scams in Meta’s Facebook. The ministry stated that it made repeated requests to Facebook for advertisements it identified as scams to be taken down, but the problem still persisted. The ministry had come down to seek court intervention.
According to Reuters who talked with Ministry of Digital Economy and Society spokesperson Wetang Phuangsup, the ministry is gathering evidence of Facebook’s wrongdoings, which will be presented before the court.
The court could close the entire platform if proved of a lot of wrongdoings, the spokesperson said.
