Finansia Syrus Securities (FSS) expected Thailand’s SET Index to move sideways within the range of 1,380-,1395 points as the overall outlook lacks positive catalysts. The market is monitoring the upcoming US CPI data on Tuesday that should impact the Fed’s decision on rate policy. Meanwhile, the majority of earnings reports will be announced this week and the following week, which should shed some light to the overall recovering pace and the adjustment of earnings estimates for 2024.
Stocks in Asia opened mixed on Monday as Chinese stock markets remained closed for the week during the Lunar Festival. Japan’s Nikkei rose 0.09% to 36,897.42 points in the morning, while Korea’s Kospi gained 0.41% to 2,620.32 points and Indonesia IDX Composite increased 0.42% to 7,265.18 points. On the other hand, Australia’s ASX 200 fell 0.31% to 7,621.40 points.
The U.S. markets ended Friday mostly higher as S&P 500 gained 0.57% to 5,026.61 points and Nasdaq Composite jumped 1.25% to 15,990.66 points. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.14% to 38,671.69 points.
Oil prices settled higher on Friday with the international benchmark Brent crude rose $0.56 or 0.7%, at $82.19 a barrel and the West Texas Intermediate gained $0.62 or 0.8%, at $76.84 a barrel.
However, crude oil prices slipped this morning with Brent falling $0.37 or 0.45% to $81.82 a barrel and WTI dipped $0.40 or 0.52% to $76.44 a barrel.
