Amazon is set to invest a total of $4 billion in Anthropic, a San Francisco-based startup that is highly regarded as a front-runner among companies competing for the advancement of generative artificial intelligence, as the company announced another investment of $2.75 billion in the AI startup.
The investment came weeks after Anthropic released Claude 3, its latest version of the fastest and most powerful AI model, which was claimed to outperform OpenAI’s GPT-4 and Google’s Gemini Ultra on industry benchmark tests.
Amazon initially announced its $1.25 billion investment in Anthropic in September 2023 and reported another investment of $2.75 billion on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the investment would not give Amazon any board seat, as the company held a minority stake in Anthropic.
