BGRIM and GPSC Edge Lower as Thai Gov’t Aims to Keep Power Tariffs Steady

The share price of two energy stocks in the Thai stock market made a sharp fall on Friday in a disappointment of the government keeping power tariffs steady to ease household burden.

As of 11:00 BKK time on July 19, 2024, B.Grimm Power Public Company Limited (SET: BGRIM) fell THB1.20 or 5.41% to THB21.00 per share, the lowest in one month. Meanwhile, Global Power Synergy Public Company Limtied (SET: GPSC) dropped THB1.50 or 3.68% to THB39.25 per share.

It was expected earlier that the government would raise Ft rates for the period of September – December 2024. However, Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister addressed the issue yesterday, saying that the government will keep the electricity rate steady at 4.18 baht per unit to alleviate burdens on the public.
