CGSI’s ASEAN Investment Challenge Opens for Registration

CGS International Securities (CGS International)’s ASEAN Investment Challenge (AIC) 2024 has now launched registration for its second run.

The AIC is a six-month challenge where students from more than 500 Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL) across Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand (MIST) receive holisticclassroom and hands-on experience of investing in environmental, social and governance (ESG)-related securities from investment and finance experts.

It is also the only investment challenge supported by all four local stock exchanges: Bursa Malaysia, Indonesia Stock Exchange, Singapore Exchange and Stock Exchange of Thailand.

AIC 2024 will be introducing a new element to the challenge: participant’s portfolio performance will now be compared against benchmark returns1. This provides an opportunity for participants to grasp the value of their trading strategies and to understand the difference between passive and active trading. This will raise the competition to provide crucial, real-time educational insights to students.

Participants will trade on a simulation trading platform with live data to test their new investment skills against other local teams. Three winners from each country will be awarded, with the top performer from each country advancing to the final presentation stage in Malaysia in January 2025.

Mr Kevin Lee, Group Head of Sustainability of CGS International, said: “In 2023, over 5,000 students participated in AIC and we hope to expand its reach so that more students can benefit from the programme. With the everchanging financial market landscape, the challenge bridges classroom theory with practical experience to hone their financial skills. We are committed to building the next generation of leaders in finance and investment.” The panel of judges this year comprises local exchange representatives from the MIST markets who will evaluate teams based on portfolio performance, risk management, incorporation of ESG factors, and presentation skills.

The combined winnings for local and regional challenge winners will amount to a total of S$75,000.

Registration starts 1 August 2024 and closes 30 September 2024. Students from participating IHLs in MIST may register online at https://aseaninvestmentchallenge.com/.
