Meta Develops AI Search Engine to Cut Reliance on Google and Bing

Meta is currently working on artificial intelligence (AI) powered search engines in a bid to reduce reliance on Alphabet’s Google and Microsoft’s Bing.

As OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, Google, and Microsoft are vying for control of an ever-growing AI market, AI search engines have become a new battleground for tech giants to compete over.

Meta’s AI-powered search engine will provide a conversational search result to its user via Meta AI, the chatbot on Meta’s various social media platforms including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.

Meta traditionally relies on third-party search engines like Google and Bing to provide users with information on news, stocks, etc.

Meanwhile, Google has been aggressively integrating the company’s own AI model Gemini into its core product like Google Search, as the company intended to provide a more conversational search experience for its users.

OpenAi’s ChatGPT relies on Bing from Microsoft, the company’s largest investor, to access the World Wide Web and provide information on general topics to its users.

However, the indiscriminate use of web data to train AI models and search engines has raised concerns over copyright infringement and unfair use of online user-generated content.
