Prasert Jantararuangtong, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand and Minister of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), revealed that on December 3, 2024, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang met with Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister of Thailand, at the Government House to discuss cooperation in preparing Thai personnel to support the country as an AI innovation hub in Southeast Asia while also collaborating on AI and chip investments in the country.
As the spokesperson of the Office of the Prime Minister of Thailand, Jirayu Houngsub, summarized key notes from the meeting, the Thai PM greeted the tech giant’s CEO, discussed potential collaboration, and future cooperation to achieve a common goal. Additionally, the Prime Minister also congratulated for the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the MDES and Nvidia.
The PM said that Thailand is putting a huge emphasis on education and skill development to integrate AI into other fields, pushing it as a key component in developing the country and strengthening workforce capability following a rapid advance of technology. She expressed hopes that both parties will continue to seek further and more intimate collaboration.
On the other hand, Jensen Huang disclosed that the purpose of the visit is to bolster collaboration between both parties. Nvidia has cooperated with and supported over 50 startups and more than 40 universities, aiming to ignite and strengthen Thailand’s AI advancement.
The tech giant saw potential and capability in Thailand to develop AI by utilizing data infrastructures, human resources, and domestic business networks in harmony with local languages, cultures, and customs to support improvement in various sectors, such as medical care and innovative agriculture, to propel the kingdom’s digital economy, while the country possessed a large number of competent personnel in hand. With the following elements, Huang hopes that the collaboration will materialize soon.
Both parties agreed that AI will play an important role in Thailand’s security and competitiveness, helping the country create innovative creativity and jobs and protecting its people. Nvidia is ready to work with the Thai government to establish a world-class AI foundation while also sharing practices and technical expertise to support Thai AI projects.
Furthermore, the Thai PM and Nvidia CEO both saw the importance of AI-related personnel as a key component in the industry. Investment in education and AI training would develop skilled Thai labor to drive AI innovation, of which Nvidia is ready to explore opportunities for collaboration in this area.
