Thailand’s Tourism Booms with 35.5 Million Visitors in 2024, Boosted by Chinese Market

Thailand experienced a significant upswing in foreign tourism in 2024, welcoming 35.55 million international travelers, a 26.3% increase compared to the previous year, according to data from the country’s tourism ministry.

A standout contributor to this growth was the influx of Chinese tourists, totaling 6.73 million, a remarkable 91% rise year-over-year. This surge marks China as Thailand’s largest source market, underscoring the strong rebound in regional travel.

While the 2024 figures signify a robust recovery, they remain shy of the nearly 40 million visitors recorded in 2019, the pre-pandemic high mark for Thailand’s tourism sector. Nevertheless, the upward trend indicates a steady restoration of its global tourist appeal.
