Thai Tourism Stocks Surge as Arrival Reaches 5 Millions in January

Stocks in tourism industries rallied as of 15:30 BKK time on Tuesday, following the report of surging tourist arrival to Thailand in January, sparking optimism on a potential boost to its economy that is lacking behind regional counterparts. 

The share price of Airports of Thailand PCL (SET: AOT) was trading at THB 55.25, representing a rise of THB 1 or 1.84%.

Bangkok Airway PCL (SET: BA) was trading at THB 19.10, representing a rise of THB 1.10 or 6.11%. Meanwhile, Asia Aviation PCL (SET: AAV) was trading at THB 2.12, representing a rise of THB 0.10 or 4.95%.

Additionally, Minor International PCL (SET: MINT) was trading at THB 25.75, representing a rise of THB 0.25 or 0.98%, while The Erawan Group PCL (SET: ERW) was trading at THB 3.38, representing a rise of THB 0.10 or 3.05%.

The share price of SKY ICT PCL (SET: SKY) was trading at THB 21.50, representing a rise of THB 0.80 or 3.86%.

Data from the Ministry of Tourism released on Tuesday shows that from 1 January to 9 February, Thailand experienced a 17.1% boost in foreign visitors compared to the same period a year ago, highlighting a strong recovery in tourism activity.

Thailand welcomed a total of 4.8 million tourists from abroad during the period. Among the arrivals, China represents a majority with a total 825,000 visitors. This upturn emphasizes the growing appeal of Thailand as a preferred destination, particularly among Chinese wayfarers.
