Krungsri Securities (KSS) stated that the Thai tourism sector has received a positive sentiment from the data on foreign tourist numbers from March 10 to 16, indicating 636,000 tourists, a decline of 0.42% week-on-week. Despite a decrease in long-haul tourists, major tourist groups such as those from China, Malaysia, Russia, South Korea, and India have all shown week-on-week recovery.
This supports a year-to-date tally of approximately 8.3 million tourists as of March 16, averaging 110,000 per day. Following this development, the analyst foresees that positive impacts should begin to emerge from the recovery of key tourist segments, with full-year projections still on track for the range of 38-40 million tourists.
Additionally, there is also positive sentiment from the Prime Minister’s meeting with Formula One Group and affirmation from the PM to proceed with studying the feasibility and benefits of co-hosting the F1 event in Thailand in 2028. On top of that, there will also be a roundtable seminar on the Entertainment Complex project on Wednesday.
Strategically, KSS recommends investors gradually accumulate stocks in the service sector that have already reflected the risks of a short-term tourism slowdown, such as AOT, CPALL, and MINT, which are in the ‘Deep Value’ zone, as well as airlines like BA that would benefit from declining oil prices.
