Microsoft to Launch 3 Data Centers in Malaysia

Microsoft is poised to unveil its inaugural cloud region in Malaysia by mid-year, featuring three data centers located in the greater Kuala Lumpur area.

This initiative comes nearly a year after the tech titan announced its substantial $2.2 billion investment to extend its cloud and AI footprint in the Southeast Asian nation.

Laurence Si, Microsoft Malaysia’s managing director, confirmed that the “Malaysia West Cloud” data centers will be operational in the second quarter, though he refrained from disclosing their capacity.

Addressing potential disruptions from U.S. semiconductor export restrictions, Si maintained that the situation remains stable for Microsoft, underscoring the company’s positive relations with key stakeholders.

Microsoft anticipates generating approximately $10.9 billion in revenue over the next four years from this venture while facilitating the creation of over 37,000 jobs, said Si.

He envisions that this development will accelerate innovation and boost security for local enterprises, positioning Malaysia as a pivotal hub for cloud computing and AI growth within Southeast Asia.
