True Corporation PCL (SET: TRUE) participated in the second public hearing on the draft announcement regarding the criteria for granting frequency spectrum licenses for international mobile telecommunications. The company expressed its support for the NBTC’s initiative to proceed with the spectrum auction in line with the original IMT Spectrum Roadmap.
Mr. Chakkrit Urairat, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of True Corporation Plc., said that “Thailand currently ranks among the leading countries in the Asia-Pacific region in terms of digital infrastructure development, particularly in mobile networks. We must maintain this advantage by staying forward-looking and accelerating new opportunities. This auction is crucial for continued progress. Whether Thailand advances as a digital leader or falls behind, this spectrum auction plays a vital role in driving the country’s digital infrastructure forward. Therefore, the NBTC should move ahead with the spectrum auction as originally planned.”
True Corporation supports the NBTC in conducting the auction in accordance with the 5-year IMT Spectrum Roadmap (2024–2028), which was approved and publicly announced by the NBTC in 2024. This includes spectrum licenses that are expiring this year and in the next two years, as well as vacant spectrum, to ensure efficient spectrum utilization. The company believes the NBTC should accelerate the auction process as outlined in the IMT Spectrum Roadmap to minimize the impact of delayed spectrum allocation. Additionally, True Corporation supports simultaneous auctions across all spectrum bands, a method widely recognized as efficient and aligned with global spectrum allocation trends. Regarding reserve prices, True favors internationally benchmarked pricing methods over past private agreements that may not accurately reflect the true value of the spectrum.
Additionally, True Corporation also shared its views on the 3500 MHz spectrum. While acknowledging its importance, the company currently has no immediate need for this spectrum. However, if included in the auction, True Corporation emphasized that the NBTC should carefully consider potential impacts on digital TV operators and C-band satellite television viewers before proceeding.
True Corporation underscores that spectrum is a critical national resource and the backbone of digital infrastructure development. Efficient spectrum allocation will enhance Thailand’s global competitiveness and support the growth of advanced technologies, including 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT). The company expresses confidence that the NBTC will conduct the spectrum auction with transparency and efficiency to maximize long-term national development benefits.
