White House Denies Fake Report of Trump’s 90-Day Pause on Tariffs

U.S. markets were a rollercoaster at the opening on Monday. It opened lower, pointing to a third consecutive loss as Trump’s tariffs are weighing on the global economy and equity markets.

The S&P 500 and Dow Jones opened lower on Monday, but suddenly shot up into positive territory before plunging to negative again. All of this happened within 10 minutes in the early trading session.

A quick alert was seen on CNBC’s website, prompting a message that the Trump administration is considering a 90-day pause on all tariffs with the exception of China. However, the White House quickly turned down the rumor, saying that it was fake news.

The S&P 500 and Dow Jones dropped about 1.60% and 2.3%, respectively, as of 22:18 on Monday (GMT+7). Nasdaq saw some resilience earlier, but succumbed to the volatility in the market and is now trading 1.29% lower.
