Thailand’s New PM Set to Form a Cabinet and Reassess $14 Billion Cash Handout Plan

Thailand’s recently appointed Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, shared her plans to conclude discussions with coalition parties this week regarding the composition of her cabinet.

Following her official endorsement as the nation’s youngest leader, Prime Minister Paetongtarn aims to engage in dialogue with the leaders of the governing coalition, consisting of her Pheu Thai party and ten others, to finalize the cabinet formation.

The 37-year-old leader, daughter of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, secured a parliamentary victory with nearly a two-thirds majority on Friday, subsequently assuming the prime ministerial role following the dismissal of Srettha Thavisin by the Constitutional Court on ethical grounds.

The PM also declared intentions to reassess a contentious $14 billion cash handout plan introduced by the previous administration to ensure alignment with the country’s fiscal responsibility regulations.
