According to the statement made by a senior Lebanese security, explosives were planted by the Israeli Mossad inside 5,000 pagers made by Gold Apollo, a Taipei-based wireless company, which were ordered by Hezbollah months prior to this morning’s detonations.
Hezbollah members have been employing low-tech means i.e., pagers for communication to avoid location tracking. The senior Lebanese security claimed the devices were tampered “at the production level” by Israel’s spy agency. Nine people were killed and the other 3,000 injured so far when such pagers detonated in tandem across Lebanon.
“The Mossad injected a board inside of the device that has explosive material that receives a code. It’s very hard to detect it through any means,” explained the Lebanese source.
Hsu Ching-Kuang, the founder of Gold Apollo, told reporters that they did not make any of the pagers involved with the explosions in Lebanon. However, the format stickers on the back of the destroyed pagers show consistency with those made by Gold Apollo.
Hsu countered that the detonated pagers were made by a European company who has the licensing right to use his company’s brand, although Hsu did not name the European company in question, asserted that Gold Apollo was also a victim in this case.
As of now, there is no response from the Israeli authority, while the US claims no involvement.
