On Tuesday, Iran launched nearly 200 ballistic missiles on Israel as a response to the death of Hassan Nasrallah, leader of Hezbollah, and an Iranian general by Israel airstrike in Lebanon.
The Iranian attack came shortly after Israel encroached into south Lebanon, intensifying the advance against the Iranian-backed Hezbollah group.
Most of the missiles from the barrage were intercepted by Israeli air defense and U.S. destroyers, according to Jake Sullivan, U.S. national security advisor. There were no known deaths directly linked to the bombardment.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard stated shortly after the missile reached Israel’s air space that the attack was a response to the Israel killing of Ismail Haniyeh, Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, and Abbas Nilforoushan.
Israel Defense Forces reported some damage from the missile hitting its target, and the damage has been evaluated.
According to Israeli officials, there are two reports of slight injuries from a missile’s shrapnel in Tel Aviv, and some other minor injuries during the evacuation to safe locations.
One dead Palestinian civilian was reported in the West Bank city of Jericho.
At 1:30 p.m. ET, the IDF announced that the citizens could safely return home.
