The president and president-elect of the United States both sent polar opposite Merry Christmas messages on Wednesday. President Joe Biden urged the American people to set aside differences and unite, while President-elect Donald Trump used the greeting as an opportunity to tease his political opponents.
In Biden’s narration on a video tour of the White House Christmas decorations published on YouTube during Christmas Eve, he encouraged the American people to set aside all things that divide the nation, to care for one another, and see each other as fellow Americans and not enemies.
Biden appeals to the American people to reflect and treat each other with dignity and respect, and there is more that unites the people than divides them.
Trump, on the other hand, posted his Merry Christmas message on Truth Social on Christmas Day with an image of himself and his wife Melania. He then reposted several articles or other social media posts that backed his political position, like his nominee Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense and his ambitions for Greenland and the Panama Canal.
Trump later published a more lengthy message with claims of Chinese soldiers operating the Panama Canal and his criticism of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Democrats.
When Biden took office in 2021, he promised to end the “uncivil war” and unite the nation, when he backed down as a Democrat candidate, he said that he did it to unite the nation.
Meanwhile, Trump seeks to prosecute his perceived political enemies, take over the Panama Canal, and restructure the federal government.
