The Gulf Sriracha Power Plant (GSRC), a collaboration between Gulf Energy Development Company Limited (SET: GULF) and the Japanese trading company Mitsui & Co., Ltd., developed by Mitsubishi Power, received the prestigious “Power Plant of the Year” title at the Power and Energy Awards, Enlit Asia 2023. This accolade highlights the plant’s effectiveness in addressing Thailand’s increasing energy demand and its operational commitment towards minimizing environmental impact through implementation of innovative power generation practices.
Located in Chonburi province, the 2,650-megawatt (MW) gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power plant broke ground in 2018. It is home to the first of Mitsubishi Power’s J-Series Air-Cooled (JAC) gas turbine ever installed in Southeast Asia, which provides a world-leading power generating efficiency of 64%. The operation of these avant-garde gas turbines results in substantial fuel savings and a significant reduction in carbon emissions, positioning them at the forefront of the global GTCC industry amid growing concerns around energy security and widespread efforts toward a cleaner energy transition.
Presented during the annual Enlit Asia 2023, a premier energy conference and exhibition, the award recognizes exceptional power plant projects that achieve successful completion and exhibit distinct incorporation of innovative power generation technologies. An esteemed panel of 34 judges, comprising of professionals, experts, and academics, bestows the award.
