Deputy Transport Minister Surapong Piyachote and other officials from the Ministry of Transport have conducted inspections in preparation for the upcoming Songkran Festival. This initiative aims to ensure the readiness of transportation services, such as trains, boats, and buses, to accommodate both Thai and international travelers during the festive period.
Officials were greeted by Mr. Sumit Srisantithum, Operation Director of Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company Limited, Miss Narisara Srisan, Strategic Communication Advisor of BTS Group Holdings Public Company Limited, and Ms. Natthapree Pichainarongsongkram, Managing Director of Chao Phraya Express Boat Co., Ltd. at BTS Siam Station.
Minister Surapong stated that the government’s policy is to elevate Songkran, the Thai New Year festival, to a global event. As part of this effort, various government agencies and private sectors have collaborated to organize activities in different areas of Bangkok. The Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, has inspected the readiness of staff providing public transportation services to ensure the convenience and safety of travelers celebrating Songkran in the heart of Bangkok.
Inspecting key transportation hubs such as BTS Siam, Sala Daeng, and Taksin Bridge stations is crucial as they serve as central points connecting rail, boat, and bus transportation. Moreover, these areas are popular among tourists during Songkran for shopping and enjoying the festivities. Popular destinations like Central World, Siam Square, and Silom Road are easily accessible from these hubs, as well as attractions like Asiatique The Riverfront and ICON SIAM.
