Alibaba Gears Up for Qwen 3 Launch as AI Race Intensifies

As per a report by Bloomberg News citing sources familiar with the matter, Alibaba Group, a dominant force in China’s tech and e-commerce sectors, is poised to introduce an enhanced iteration of its AI capabilities with the release of Qwen 3.

Scheduled for a tentative launch this month, the debut of Qwen 3 underscores the rapidly intensifying competition within the AI industry, an arena invigorated by the groundbreaking presence of China’s DeepSeek earlier this year.

DeepSeek made waves in the AI community with the rollout of a cost-effective model that sent ripples through the sector globally. In response to DeepSeek’s rising prominence, Alibaba swiftly unveiled Qwen 2.5-Max in late January, marking its determination to remain at the forefront of AI innovation.

Released on the culturally significant day of the Lunar New Year, Qwen 2.5-Max not only showcased technological advancements but also highlighted the competitive pressures exerted by DeepSeek.

Reports from Reuters in February noted that DeepSeek is expediting the launch of the successor to its celebrated R1 model, with plans to roll out the next-generation iteration before May. The model, alongside V3, has garnered acclaim from Silicon Valley.
