More than 35 people, including 26 children, were confirmed dead on Thursday in Nong Bua Lam Phu, Thailand’s northeastern province, following a mass shooting at a daycare center.
The gunman, who had been discharged from the police force for drug-related reasons last year, attacked a daycare center early in the afternoon, then killed his wife and child at their home before turning his weapon on himself, according to local police.
According to police, the gunman was facing trial on a drug charge and had been in court hours before the attack.
In a phone interview, Pol Maj Gen Paisal told Thai PBS that the gunman was apparently under the influence of drugs. He claims the gunman is a former cop who was fired last year for drug abuse.
