Twitter says it will begin layoffs on Friday as new owner Elon Musk works rapidly to get the social platform profitable following his US$44 billion takeover.
APF has learned that Twitter employees will discover their fate at the start of business on Friday, as stated in an internal email sent out on Thursday.
Twitter has not confirmed the number of layoffs, but the Washington Post and the New York Times have both reported that almost half of the company’s 7,500 employees will be cut.
“In an effort to place Twitter on a healthy path, we will go through the difficult process of reducing our global workforce,” the email said.
Employees at Twitter have been waiting for such bad news since Musk completed his acquisition late last week and promptly dissolved its board and fired its CEO and top executives.
